INFESTACION & INFESTACION: HELL’S PASS makes its debut in comic book form, chronicling the decimation of our beloved city of El Paso, TX and Juarez, Mexico, in a story of non-stop horror, action and adventure, but aimed for a mature audience.
Adversary Comix is proud to announce the premiere of El Paso’s newest comic book horror series: INFESTACION: HELL’S PASS!
The first book of the series, introduces readers to the «what if?» scenario of, what if El Paso was infested with zombies? A question that will be answered in this 3 issue mini-series from the minds that brought you El Paso’s hometown hero, EL VALIENTE!
Ray Ramos, the writer of the series is an El Paso native and was drawn to the series of events that would lead up to the zombie infestation. «My good friends at 656 Comics, based out of Juarez, Mexico, have had this concept for a little over 3 years. Their story takes place in Juarez, and deals with the ramifications of the undead taking over El Paso’s sister city. I asked them, what about El Paso, what happens when the undead appear here? They wanted to add to the mythos of their tale and asked me to write the El Paso chapter into their storyline.»
This also sprouted from a conversation that Ramos had with the «master» of the genre, George A. Romero.
Ramos attended the San Diego Comic-Con in 2007, which is the biggest convention for pop culture in the world and there he spoke with the legendary director himself. «My friends and I are doing a comic about a zombie infestation in and around the Juarez/El Paso area.» Ramos relates. «He looked at me over his big glasses and like an approving grandfather, gave me a look I will never forget and said, «You are? Well that’s good! It’s about time that the genre was used there. What does it deal with?» he asked.» Ramos stated.
Ramos goes on to say, «I was totally prepared for this question and I let her rip. I spilled the beans and told him almost the whole story, as far as I knew it, and how we were using «the Border» as a social commentary on the problems we as Fronterizos are faced with. The divide between ethnicities, the divide between social classes, and ultimately, using zombies as the biggest divide of all, the segregation between life and death, or un-death as the situation presented itself.
«Wow!» Romero said. «I am very impressed, but you have to get it done!»
«And with those words, or rather, that BLESSING, I knew that we had to get it done, we had the «master’s» approval and we had to deliver!» Ramos elatedly stated.
The premise of the first issue involves 3 characters that represent John Q.Public, sort of. «I wanted to start off the book in a big way and the story is seen through these characters eyes, a couple of El Pasoans.» Said Ramos. «Three guys that are not that nice, in fact, they’re jerks, but you’ve got to be a jerk if the living dead are replacing humans, especially in El Paso!»
«I wanted to show the Sun City in a different light. Last year I unleashed EL VALIENTE, masked superhero savior of El Paso, this time around, I did a complete 180 and went in a totally opposite direction and practically destroyed the town!»
INFESTACION: HELL’S PASS will arrive in comic book stores in April citywide, but the premiere is on March 22nd at Rebel’s Comic Vault located at 10781 Pebble Hills.
But it doesn’t end there; the originators of the story and direct from Juarez, México, 656 Comics will also be on hand at the singing to relate their tales of zombies on the border land!
IN THE LAND OF THE LIVING THE UN-DEAD RULE!!!!!
INFESTATION is a project that’s been on the works for almost 3 years. Basically it’s a zombie story set around the border land, where Juarez has become the sanctuary for all those people who hope to achieve the American dream and get stuck along the way. You get the action that you expect from the horror genre but with a profound social theme that reflects Juarez current way of life.
656 comics presents: INFESTATION. Conceived originally as a graphic novel, separated in 4 volumes (1 every year), each volume consists of 6 chapters. Once the INFESTATION starts there’s no stopping it. The first volume sets the tone of the entire saga; we see the story thru the eyes of our 3 main characters: A young man named Dante, the not so fragile Spain and an old man called Jose. Each of them having their own agenda, the how’s and whys of their coming together is the very core of INFESTATION. They represent the most active groups in our day to day society.
The border has always been considered a no mans land, where the rest of the country turns a blind eye on its problems; INFESTATION takes this premise to the extreme and shows us exactly how people can adapt and grow even in the most adverse situation and in some cases even find happiness.
INFESTATION and INFESTACION: HELL’S PASS is currently on sale at Indyplanet.com
